UPCOMING (Sat. Jan. 16): Grindhouse style double feature movie night at The Sanctuary in Detroit

This Saturday (January 16) The Sanctuary in Detroit is holding the first installment of their monthly Grindhouse style double feature movie night.

They are starting it off with two classics that have shocked and captivated people over the years, but have had too few big screen appearances.

Nekromantik
The 1987 West Germanhorror exploitation film co-written and directed by Jörg Buttgereit. It is known to be frequently controversial, banned in a number of countries, and has become a cult film over the years due to its transgressive subject matter (including necrophilia) and audacious imagery. Only recently did any new printings become available to the public!

Cannibal Holocaust
1980 Italian cannibal exploitation horror film directed by Ruggero Deodato. The film was inspired by Italian media reporting of Red Brigade terrorism. Cannibal Holocaust achieved notoriety as its graphic violence aroused a great deal of controversy. After its premiere in Italy, it was ordered to be seized by a local magistrate, and Deodato was arrested on obscenity charges. He was later charged with making a snuff film due to rumors that claimed some actors were killed on camera. Although Deodato was later cleared, the film was banned in Italy, Australia, and several other countries due to its portrayal of graphic brutality. Critics have suggested that the film is a commentary about civilized versus uncivilized society.

Doors will be at 8pm

Nekromantik starts at 8:30pm on the dot!
There will be a short intermission  between films of about 15-20 minutes then Cannibal Holocaust will start.

Door price is a $5 donation (all money goes to the venue to put towards continued upgrades).
