Musicians Rock for Women's Shelters

The inaugural FOXFEST takes place this May and features four female-fronted Detroit rock bands, two women artists, and two local vendors with the night's proceeds to benefit a good cause! 


The date is FRIDAY, MAY 16 at 9pm and 21and over patrons are welcome. Admission is $8 and proceeds benefit the Michigan based women's shelters: "Alternatives for Girls"(www.alternativesforgirls.org) in Detroit; Turning Point Shelter in Macomb; (www.turningpointmacomb.org); and LACASA Center (www.lacasacenter.org) in Howell - one of the few in the state which allow pets to accompany the women at the shelter. 

The event will be held at THE TANGENT GALLERY located at 715 E. Milwaukee in Detroit. (313-873-2955) This show is sponsored by the Detroit event website and local entertainment supporter, Detroit Can Kick Your Ass!


WHITE SHAG – Detroit's White Shag is a hard rock band featuring Laura Mendoza, (Vocals and Bass) Jorge Cortez,(Vocals and Guitar) and Joe Leone (Drums). The power trio has been storming the streets of the motor city since their debut EP in 2012. Citing influences such as the MC5 and The Stooges, White Shag is Detroit rock in its purest form, ripping up every stage as if it were the last one they will ever play on! www.whiteshag.com


THE LUCKOUTS – This raw powerhouse rock trio is fronted by lead singer/guitarist Liz Scaris and bassist Gretchen Domino with Dan Durecki keeping the beat on drums. If you love raw Detroit rock & roll with a twist of glam you will have to see and hear The Luckouts! www.reverbnation.com/theluckouts
MERIDITH LORDE & THE TAINTED SAINTS – Glamorous rocker/designer/model Meridith Lorde fronts this Detroit rock band made up of local music veterans Skid Marx,(Flirt, The Seatbelts) Victor Perraino, (Kingdom Come, Arthur Brown) and Vandyl Colony (EPROM Colony). DOWNFALL - Downfall has two reasons to join FOXFEST this year: Their heavy, yet melodic sound comes from two soulful, hard rock females on vocals and guitar and some heavy hitting boys on bass and percussion. They are eager to shake up the local rock scene with their thumping brand of original material. Two women artists will also display their works at the event, Julie Fournier from Hazel Park's Smiling Eyes Studios www.juliefournier.com and Christen Carolin from Ferndale.

Two local vendors will be displaying their wares including the women-owned CreepynCute Shop who just won Best Etsy Shop in the 2014 Metro Times Best Of Detroit. Alternatives for Girls.org – The Detroit-based non-profit organization has been active for the past 25 years in helping homeless and young women avoid violence, teen pregnancy and exploitation, and help them to explore and access the support, resources and opportunities necessary to be safe, to grow strong and to make positive choices in their lives.

TurningPointMacomb.org -Turning Point’s mission is to provide programs and resources that enable victims/survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault to regain control of their lives.

LaCasa Center.org – The center's mission is to support and advocate for survivors of child abuse, domestic violence and sexual assault. They also provide prevention, education and awareness to strengthen families and make our community safer. This is one of the few shelters in the country that provide a safe, on-site place for survivors' pets when seeking shelter
