Wild At Heart

After a month without a big show, I ended up going to see Pearl Jam in Buffalo, NY which was an amazing show. Going on stage only 45 minutes late they started the night with a new song "Pendulum", the first of 9 of the 12 songs from their new album 'Lightning Bolt' which is going to be released tomorrow. It was an amazing show lasting 2 hours 40 minutes and a great mixture of popular ("Alive", "Even Flow") and lesser known songs ("Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town", "Rats", "Sometimes") in a wonderful tapestry of the bands years of great music. One can easily forgive not hearing songs like "Jeremy" and "Last Kiss" though by the many shout outs by the crowd, they did miss "Better Man". The biggest reaction amazingly enough was during the second encore when they followed "Go" and "Alive" with a cover of the Who's "Baba O'Riley" which sounded just as good as when I heard the Who play it at the Palace a number of years ago. This was one of the best shows I have seen this year and the last good opportunity for anyone from Detroit to see them (there were people from Detroit and Cleveland in the audience).

I have folk legend Arlo Gurthrie later this week (he'll be in Ann Arbor at the Ark in May) and while you wait, here are some shows that might be of interest.

Tuesday (10/15) - Blue Man Group @ Macomb Center For Performing Arts

Wednesday (10/16) - Blue Man Group @ Macomb Center For Performing Arts

Thursday (10/17) - John Mayall @ Callahans

Friday (10/18) - Zappa Plays Zappa @ Royal Oak Music Theatre, Sick Puppies @ St Andrews Hall, Minus The Bear @ Majestic Theatre, Verve Pipe @ the Ark, Howling Diablos @ Callahans

Saturday (10/19) - Misfits @ Harpos, Swellers @ Pike Room

Sunday (10/20) - Band Perry @ Ceasars Windsor

I was also wondering this week what has happened to all the Hostess Cupcakes. I had a craving and they were sold out at 3 grocery stores and 2 gas stations I visited. Can they be that popular now they are back or did they just not produce that much this month. I hate wanted to get something to eat and not being able to find it. Hopefully they will start showing up again this week.
