UPCOMING: Animal House Party for the Michigan Humane society

I've been a supporter of the Michigan Humane Society in one way or another for most of my life. Every pet I've ever had has been a rescue, many from the MHS. This is my favorite kind of fundraiser: worthy, fun, different and inexpensive. Check 'em out.

Inaugural Animal House Party to raise funds for
August 6, 2011

DETROIT, Mich. (July 11, 2011) – Detroit’s newest house party is going to the dogs.

And the cats, rabbits, reptiles and all our other companion animals in the metro area. Presented by Comerica, Animal House Party is a new event for the young professionals of Metro Detroit to enjoy an August night on the Garden Patio at the Whitney with DJs and refreshments, while raising funds for the Michigan Humane Society.

Animal House Party is the brainchild of Hubert and Eliza Sawyers, principals of SorSaw Enterprises, LLC. AHP is the result of their desire to mix the perfect blend of music, charity and community.

“We’re grateful for the creativity and support of SorSaw and its interest in helping the Michigan Humane Society care for the more than 100,000 animals that come through our doors every year,” said Mike Robbins, vice president of marketing and communications for the Michigan Humane Society. “Events like Animal House Party are critical as we strive to reach our goal of providing a loving home for every adoptable animal in our care by 2015.”

“The goal of AHP is to raise awareness beyond the usual animal-focused crowd and have a little fun along the way,” explained Hubert Sawyers III. “We’re also working to give animal rescue shelters a dialogue with new audiences on less-known and less-understood animal issues in the Metro Detroit community.”
  • Tickets for Animal House Party are $40 and include drinks, hors d’oeuvres, valet parking and entertainment.
  • Detroit's own DJ Kim Sorise (of WDET fame) will open for internationally known DJ Graffiti from Ann Arbor.
  • The August 6 event will be from 8 p.m. to midnight.
  • You must be 21 to attend, and must purchase tickets in advance at AnimalHouseParty.com.

The website will also offer a series of digital and in-real-life events for the AHP community:
  • Weekly Animal Chat on Twitter - #AHPchat
  • TWEETEA with Animals - July 19th
  • Online auctions starting July 15th
